Lynx: secure multi-tenancy embedded system design at ERTS

Lynx Software Technologies is addressing the design of reliable, secure multi-tenancy embedded systems for the connected car and other markets at ERTS2 in Toulouse, France. The company has a joint presence on the show floor with its French distributor, ISIT. 

On the show floor at ERTS, ISIT and Lynx will be demonstrating the capability of LynxSecure to deliver secure separation within the resource constraints of embedded systems especially gateways. The LynxSecure hypervisor brings unique protection characteristics to intelligent devices, gateways and cloud infrastructure within a kernel 200 times smaller than the Linux kernel. It combines military-grade security with hard real-time scheduling, offering unique security differentiation against traditional virtualization solutions.

Lynx appointed ISIT as its French distributor in October 2014. ISIT offers customers a complete package to support their safety critical and secure software development programs, from processor selection, through the selection of a communication solution, the operating system and separation kernel to the development of their application.

 

The separation kernel and “Type-0” hypervisor is an award winning bare-metal architecture, designed from the ground up, that differentiates from type 1 hypervisors by removing the un-needed functionality from the “security sensitive” hypervisor mode, yet virtualizes guest OSes in a tiny stand-alone package. By combining the best-of-breed capabilities of the real-time separation kernel technology and virtualization, LynxSecure provides unmatched capabilities to run one or more guest OS (real-time or GPOS) on embedded, desktop or server platforms. LynxSecure provides one of the most flexible secure real-time virtualization solutions for use in embedded and IT computer systems. Designed to maintain the highest levels of military security, LynxSecure offers an industry-leading combination of security with functionality, allowing developers and integrators to use the latest software and hardware technologies to build complex OS-based systems.

LynxOS 7.0 is a deterministic, hard real-time operating system that provides POSIX conformant API’s in a small footprint embedded kernel. LynxOS provides symmetric multi-processing support to fully take advantage of multi-core/multi-threaded processors. LynxOS 7.0 provides open APIs including medium-assurance security per the general purpose operating-system protection profile (GPOSPP). Alongside the upcoming ARM support, LynxOS 7.0 currently supports the most popular reference targets in the Intel and PowerPC architectures including the new Intel 4th Generation Core, and the Freescale QorIQ processors. LynxOS 7.0 Board Support Packages are available for targets from GE Intelligent Systems, Curtiss Wright, and Extreme Engineering.
