At Embedded World 2012, emtrion is to present an embedded module with dual-core technology with particular benefits for industry. The module uses the Renesas Dual ARM Cortex-A9 EMEV2 processor that has been tried and tested in mobile and automotive applications. With the DIMM-EMEV2 module, developers of industrial applications can easily use a dual-core processor for their own projects. In addition to a clearly laid-out development environment, the module also comes with an extensive support package. The Android or Linux operating system supplied with the module automatically ensures efficient load distribution across both processors. For the core board, emtrion provides the reference DIMM baseboard Lothron as a "development crib sheet", so to speak, with all the interfaces that experience shows customers need. This makes it easier to develop your own baseboard. Manufacturing a baseboard is very cost-intensive, especially for smaller projects. For these projects, emtrion offers the Verno baseboard, which has been pared down to the most important basic functions. And with extensive documentation, now there's nothing to prevent fast development of reliable embedded products.
Components used in industrial applications need to meet exacting requirements in terms of quality, flexibility and long-term availability. emtrion offers the perfect solutions for these needs. The DIMM-EMEV2 belongs to a module family whose members can all use the same baseboard. For developers of embedded devices, this offers considerable flexibility in terms of upgrades and downgrades, combined with the security of knowing they will remain technically up-to-date for the long term. They can also exchange the core board used for a more innovative one, more or less by simply using plug and play. Renesas guarantees long-term availability for the processor used and emtrion selects all other assembly parts in such a way that they can pass on this guarantee to their DIMM modules. This is particularly important in sectors such as medical technology, where certifications involve a laborious process and, once approved, devices remain in use for many years. Thanks to its low energy consumption, further applications for the module include mobile and battery-operated devices such as data loggers and measuring equipment, and all areas where sophisticated multimedia functionality is required. With full HD control, 2D and 3D graphics acceleration, H.264 encoder/decoder and much more, the EMEV2 is simply ideal for these applications.
