Berner & Mattner: improved change management for IBM Rational satemate models

Berner & Mattner’s new PowerDiff version 8.1 facilitates the development of complex systems with IBM Rational Statemate. PowerDiff graphical diff tool for IBM Rational Statemate models ensures model consistency as well as traceability of changes during the system’s entire life cycle. The new version for Windows XP and Windows 7 provides users of the defence, aeronautics and automotive industries with a much more detailed diff in long text passages and extended functions. By simply pressing a key, clearly structured change reports can be generated as pdf documents. Bookmarks and additional links in the pdf reports are guiding the user directly to the change descriptions.

PowerDiff version 8.1 by Berner & Mattner offers a large number of new features for an improved and more efficient change management for IBM Rational Statemate models. PowerDiff 8.1 users benefit from a quicker analysis of IBM Rational Statemate model changes and can thus optimize their configuration management. The tool developed for Windows XP and Windows 7 platforms ensures better traceability of changes and provides seamless documentation and precise validation. All changes can easily be retraced via well-structured pdf reports with links.

The refinement of the text diff algorithm results in an essentially optimized representation of differences in large text passages. The depiction of differences in truth tables has also been considerably enhanced. By this, removed or added lines are now recognized; instead of being reported as “amended” they are now highlighted as “deleted” or “new”. In addition, the number of a removed or added line and the heading of a removed or added column are accentuated by a dedicated colored highlighting.

In order to increase the number of supported references the MiKTeX pdf generator has been updated to the most recent version MiKTeX 2.9. Furthermore, the accentuation of differences in the text on a transition label has been significantly improved. By changing the mechanism of identifying a transition in PowerDiff 8.1 the complete code of the transition label including the trigger can be scanned for changes word by word. The usability of the ChartListEditor has also been enhanced. The functionality “auto assign” now even includes chart files with version numbers included in the file suffix.

PowerDiff 8.1 offers a flexible selection of comparison criteria, such as “short description”, “long description” or “attributes”. New options enable the user to filter differences, e. g. differences caused by changes in the tick notation. In addition, differences in numerous object types (e. g. external activities) can be excluded from reporting.
